Magnussen verspilt geen energie aan gepieker over toekomst

Kevin Magnussen verkeert nog altijd in onzekerheid of zijn debuutseizoen in de Formule 1 een vervolg krijgt. De jonge Deen imponeerde bij zijn eerste Grand Prix door direct op het podium te eindigen. Nadien presteerde hij wat wisselvallig, maar de McLaren MP4-29 is ook geen bolide waar je echt potten mee kunt breken. De vraag is of het team dat Magnussen aanrekent.

Zelf bekommert de Deen zich daar niet om. "Ik ben in elk geval nog niet ontslagen! Ik denk dat McLaren een mooie toekomst tegemoet gaat, veel positieve dingen vallen langzaam maar zeker op hun plek. Ik wil echt onderdeel uitmaken van die toekomst. Het enige dat ik kan doen is mijn best. Iedereen zit in hetzelfde schuitje. We doen ons best en het team verwacht prestaties van ons. Zo gaat dat in de Formule 1. Ik ga niet piekeren, ik ben blij dat ik hier mag zijn."

"Je leert continu in de Formule 1. Deze sport evolueert elke dag en omdat de dingen steeds veranderen steek je telkens weer wat nieuws op. Dat maakt de Formule 1 wat het is. Vraag Jenson Button of hij alles weet en hij zal nee zeggen. Als rookie is de hoeveelheid leerstof voor mij allicht groter en ik heb veel geleerd, dus ik heb niet het gevoel dat mijn ontwikkeling stokt. Er is echter nog genoeg om te leren. Naarmate je ergens beter in wordt leer je weer bij."
