Williams vervangt stuurkolom bij Bottas voor Japan

Het team van Williams heeft besloten Valtteri Bottas van een nieuwe stuurkolom te voorzien na de problemen die de Fin in Singapore ervoer. Hij klaagde na de race over 'plakkerig' sturen, de auto reageerde nauwelijks op zijn input. Williams heeft geen directe oorzaak gevonden en besloot daarop uit voorzorg om de hele stuurkolom maar te vervangen.

Bottas deelde aan Autosport mede: "Het team heeft de aanleiding voor de problemen nog niet ontdekt. We hebben moeite om de omstandigheden uit Singapore na te bootsen, het moet te maken gehad hebben met de temperatuur. Alles is getest onder normale temperaturen, nu dienen we nog een manier te bedenken om hetere omstandigheden te creëren en te kijken of bijvoorbeeld de stuurbekrachtiging daaronder is bezweken."

"In de normale tests was niks te zien, maar ik weet zeker dat er iets mis was met het sturen. Daarom is het zaak om de omstandigheden uit Singapore zo goed mogelijk te reproduceren om de exacte oorzaak van dit euvel te doorgronden en te zorgen dat het niet vaker gebeurt."
