VT2: Red Bull Racing komt niet in het stuk voor in Sotsji

Het team van Red Bull Racing had het zich vast anders voorgesteld, de eerste Grand Prix van Rusland in Sotsji. De viervoudig wereldkampioen kwam op de eerste dag niet in het stuk voor op het Sochi Autodrom. In de eerste vrije training eindigden beide coureurs buiten de top tien en in de tweede sessie perste Sebastian Vettel met moeite de negende tijde uit zijn RB10.

Tot overmaat van ramp viel Daniel Ricciardo in de laatste tien minuten stil op het stuk tussen bochten 11 en 12. Dat zorgde voor een rode vlag. Vooraan hield McLaren lange tijd gelijke tred met Mercedes, totdat Lewis Hamilton zijn bolide eens flink op zijn staart trapte. De kampioenschapleider was uiteindelijk meer dan acht tienden sneller dan wie dan ook.

Achter Hamilton zat het dicht bij elkaar, met Kevin Magnussen, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg en Valtteri Bottas binnen een tiende van elkaar. Rosberg maakte in zijn snelste ronde wel een foutje in bocht 17. Jenson Button en Felipe Massa waren ook niet ver weg. Daarachter is een gaatje naar de twee teams van Red Bull ontstaan.

Rosberg was niet de enige die in bocht 17 even wijd ging. Vettel, Jean-Eric Vergne, Romain Grosjean en Daniil Kvyat gleden daar de uitloopstrook op. Ze konden allen zonder problemen hun weg vervolgen. Een andere scherprechter was bocht 13. Nico Hülkenberg en Jenson Button schoten daar rechtdoor. Adrian Sutil had in bocht 7 de uitloopstrook nodig.

Toro Rosso er weer goed bij.
Eerder lette ik niet zo op hun tijden, nu wel.
Hoe zou dat toch komen ?

  Wat mij dan weer opvalt is dat Raikkonen zelfs achter beide Toro Rosso's staat op ~1.1 seconde achter Alonso.... Zal dit weekend wel geen sprake van een 'doorbraak' zijn bij Raikkonen.
