Pirelli bezorgd over nieuw asfalt wanneer het regent

Pirelli heeft de teams laten weten bezorgd te zijn over hoe glad het nieuw geasfalteerde deel van het circuit wordt wanneer het regent dit weekend. Het nieuwe deel zou wanneer het nat wordt erg olieachtig aanvoelen, en Pirelli waarschuwt daarom de coureurs en teams om extra voorzichtig te zijn wanneer het daadwerkelijk begint te regenen.

Paul Hembery, motorsport director van Pirelli legt uit: "Wanneer het regent komt er olie vrij uit het nieuwe bitumen. Je hebt dan olie en water. Je hoeft geen expert te zijn om te weten dat dat geen goede combinatie is. Wanneer het dus regent moeten wij extra voorzichtig zijn. De ideale lijn is anders in de regen, dus rijders gebruiken dan delen van de baan die op vrijdag met rust werden gelaten."

Teams hadden vrijdagmiddag echter andere problemen: blaren op de banden. Volgens Pirelli was dit eerst wel een probleem, maar nu niet meer aangezien meer en meer rubber op de baan ligt. Hembery denkt dat - wanneer de race op zondag droog blijft - een strategie met twee stops het snelst is, met daarbij de medium band die twee keer gebruikt wordt.
