McLaren neemt na dit jaar afscheid van Gary Paffett

De wegen van McLaren en testrijder Gary Paffett scheiden na dit jaar. Dat is het onvermijdelijke gevolg van de overstap van Mercedes naar Honda als motorleverancier voor de Britse renstal. Paffett was sinds 2006 als test- en reservecoureur aan McLaren verbonden. De Engelsman blijft voor Mercedes actief in de DTM.

Paffett: "Ik heb genoten van de jarenlange samenwerking met McLaren en ik hoop dat mijn feedback en input het team hebben geholpen. De engineers waren in elk geval altijd zo aardig om te zeggen dat ik een waardevolle bijdrage leverde. Ik heb veel vrienden bij McLaren en wens ze het beste voor de toekomst. Hopelijk gaan ze volgend jaar weer races winnen."

McLaren-directeur Jonathan Neale: "Gary is bijna een decennium lang een uitmuntend en voorbeeldig lid van ons team geweest. Zijn technische input, zowel op de circuits als in de simulator, was altijd zeer belangrijk voor ons. Bovendien is hij ook nog een geweldige kerel. We wensen hem alleen maar goeds toe."
