GPDA definieert punten om Formule 1 te verbeteren

De coureurs verzameld in rijdersvakbond GPDA komen dit weekend in Abu Dhabi bij elkaar om te bespreken op welke aspecten de Formule 1 voor verbetering vatbaar is. Voorzitter Alexander Wurz verkondigde na zijn benoeming dat hij een bijdrage wil leveren aan een betere show in de Formule 1. Die woorden probeert de Oostenrijker waar te maken.

Wurz liet aan Autosport weten: "We bevinden ons in het proces om de punten waarop de Formule 1 zich kan verbeteren gedetailleerd te definiëren. Niemand van ons had rekening gehouden met het ernstige ongeluk van Jules Bianchi in Japan, waardoor andere dingen opeens de prioriteit genoten. Maar in Abu Dhabi vergaderen we over de ideeën en voorstellen om met de stakeholders van de Formule 1 te kijken hoe we de fans er meer bij kunnen betrekken en de show kunnen verbeteren."

"We willen meer het publieke domein in, zonder te politiek te worden. De GPDA moet een beetje veranderen. We zijn klaar om meer invloed uit te oefenen op de manier waarop de Formule 1 omgaat met de fans, op de coördinatie tussen de verschillende werkgroepen en op het overleg met de leiding van de sport, maar wel op een constructieve wijze. We willen ons als coureurs meer integreren in het systeem. Dat betekent dat ik voldoende te doen krijg."
