Williams benoemt Nielsen tot sportief directeur

Steve Nielsen verliet Scuderia Toro Rosso vorige week vrij plotseling en nu is duidelijk waarom. De Brit gaat aan de slag bij het team van Williams. Hij is in Grove benoemd tot sportief directeur, een functie die hij eerder bij onder meer Toro Rosso en Caterham bekleedde.

Nielsen: "Het doet me deugd om me bij Williams te voegen. In deze rol moet ik ervoor zorgen dat het team operationeel gezien op het hoogste niveau opereert. Ik ben mede verantwoordelijk voor het maximaliseren van de sportieve prestaties. Williams beschikt over een getalenteerde groep medewerkers en ik kan niet wachten om aan de slag te gaan."

Technisch directeur Pat Symonds: "Steve brengt een schat aan ervaring met zich mee en zal ons als team helpen bij onze ambitie om verder te groeien. Hij heeft wereldtitels gewonnen in het verleden en weet dus wat er gevraagd wordt. We hebben een begaafd raceteam en met Steve hebben we iemand waarmee we operationeel stappen kunnen zetten."
