Kubica: "Opnieuw beginnen in F1 heeft geen zin"

Het boek Formule 1 is voor Robert Kubica dicht. Niet dat de Pool het niet weer zou willen proberen, maar hij weet dat hij door zijn fysieke beperkingen niet meer op het niveau kan opereren dat hij vroeger gewend was. De carrière van Kubica kreeg een wending na een naar rally-ongeluk in de aanloop naar het seizoen 2011.

"Ik mis de sfeer in de Formule 1 niet, maar het besturen van die auto's wel", vertelde de eenmalig Grand Prix-winnaar aan Leo Turrini. "Dat was mijn levensdroom. Ik was geboren om te racen op circuits en dat is me gelukt. Totdat er opeens iets gebeurde."

"Lichamelijk zou het nog wel kunnen. Ik heb vorig jaar wat simulatorsessies bij Mercedes gedaan en hoewel de resultaten niet negatief waren, kon ik toch niet mijn niveau van vroeger benaderen. Het heeft dan ook geen zin om opnieuw te beginnen in de Formule 1. Ik focus me op rally rijden."
