Hamilton verdenkt Rosberg nog altijd van opzet

De verhoudingen tussen Mercedes-coureurs Lewis Hamilton en Nico Rosberg zijn genormaliseerd, maar die stonden dit seizoen lange tijd op scherp. De Brit verdenkt zijn Duitse teamgenoot nog steeds van opzet bij zijn fout in de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Monaco. Rosberg vergaloppeerde zich waardoor Hamilton niet meer voor pole position kon gaan.

Hamilton deed in de documentaire A Champion's Story van Sky Sports F1 een boekje open: "In Bahrein deed Nico iets, in Barcelona deed ik iets terug en in Monaco tilde hij de rivaliteit naar een heel ander niveau. Dat was moeilijk te verkroppen. Ik probeerde kalm te blijven en de negatieve energie om te zetten in positieve energie. Ik verloor zeven punten in Monaco, maar was wel extra vastberaden om die punten terug te pakken."

"In Bahrein zijn bij zijn kant van de garage wat schakelaars omgezet om de motor van extra kracht te voorzien om mij in te halen. In Barcelona is hetzelfde gebeurd bij mijn kant van de pitbox. Daarna kregen we te horen dat dit niet de bedoeling was. Vervolgens heeft geen van ons meer met afstellingen gerommeld zonder toestemming van het team. Het hoorde bij het leerproces dat Nico en ik ondergingen."
