Vertrek van James Allison was harde klap voor Lotus

Het team van Lotus beleefde in 2014 een seizoen om snel te vergeten. De Britse renstal scoorde slechts tien puntjes. De kiem voor de beroerde prestaties is in de winter van 2013/2014 gelegd, zo beweert hoofd trackside operations Alan Permane tegenover Autosport. Het verlies van technisch directeur James Allison kwam hard aan in Enstone.

Permane: "De vorige winter was verschrikkelijk voor ons. We raakten veel personeel kwijt en onze aerodynamische afdeling werd uitgehold. Met alle respect voor onze huidige technisch directeur Nick Chester, maar James Allison was een echte leider. Zijn vertrek was een klap voor ons. We verloren ook Dirk de Beer, onze hoofd aerodynamica, en onze belangrijkste CFD-specialist."

"Dit waren allemaal waardevolle krachten. Niemand is onvervangbaar, maar soms vergt het wel wat tijd voordat je weer op hetzelfde niveau zit. De oude samenstelling van de aerodynamische afdeling werkte al vijf, zes jaar samen. Het abrupte einde van dat tijdperk heeft ons terug geworpen. Maar we hebben een geweldige fabriek en windtunnel in Enstone, dus ik zie geen reden waarom we op termijn niet terug kunnen groeien naar ons oude niveau."

"Er zijn drie, vier dingen die een auto snel maken en één daarvan is aerodynamica. Op dat vlak schortte er in 2014 nogal wat aan. We denken te weten wat daar de oorzaken van waren en die hebben we geadresseerd bij het ontwerp voor 2015. In de windtunnel zien we al significante vooruitgang, dus we zijn vol vertrouwen voor het nieuwe seizoen."

Dikke verliezen, sponsors die weglopen, personeel wat wegloopt en dikst betaalde paydriver van het veld. Lotus kan heel veel babbels hebben maar het ziet er gewoon niet goed uit.

Dit gaan ze met de nieuwe motor niet 1,2,3 oplossen zeker als de wagen doorontwikkeld moet gaan worden.
