'De la Rosa wordt testrijder bij Mercedes'

Pedro de la Rosa lijkt binnenkort een nieuw team aan zijn cv te kunnen toevoegen. Volgens de Spaanse krant Marca zal de oud-coureur van onder andere McLaren en HRT in dienst treden bij Mercedes en daar een reserve- of simulatorrol op zich nemen.

De laatste jaren werkte de la Rosa als reservecoureur bij Ferrari, en nu de 44-jarige coureur het Italiaanse team heeft verlaten lijkt de weg open voor een nieuwe werkgever. Volgens de Spaanse krant Marca lijkt de Spanjaard gekozen te hebben voor het team van Mercedes.

De regerend kampioen en Pedro de la Rosa hebben "de laatste weken verschillende keren contact gehad" volgens het medium. Daarnaast signaleerde de krant afgelopen week tijdens de testsessies in Barcelona de rijder bij het Duitse team.

Voor een man van zijn leeftijd is het leuk dat hij nog steeds als testcoureur aan de slag kan/mag. Het is dan wel geen racen maar hij mag nog steeds in de snelste F1 wagens aan de slag ;-)

    Voor een man van zijn leeftijd is het leuk dat hij nog steeds als testcoureur aan de slag kan/mag. Het is dan wel geen racen maar hij mag nog steeds in de snelste F1 wagens aan de slag ;-)

    Pedro geeft kennelijk erg nuttige feedback aan het team, dat men hem nog steeds als testcoureur wil hebben. Blijkbaar heeft hij erg veel technische kennis en natuurlijk ook al bergen aan ervaring.

      Ga daar maar gerust vanuit. Zijn kwaliteiten liggen niet op een snelle ronde, wel op het vlak 30 rondes op hetzelfde niveau te rijden en van een minieme wijziging te kunnen zeggen of het een verbetering is of niet. Goed testen is een vak apart, je kunt ook maar 1 ding tegelijk wijzigen anders weet je helemaal niet meer wat werkt en wat niet. Daarom schoot ik vorig jaar zo in de lach toen Bouillier vertelde dat ze een update voor Singapore hadden van wel 250 wijzigingen in totaal. Je hebt in een weekend niet eens de tijd om er 10 uit te proberen, er moet ook nog aan een race setup geknutseld worden tenslotte..:-)

    Toch apart hoe sommige teams deze veteranen als testcoureurs aanhoud. Wurz, Gene en delaRosa zijn allemaal mannen die heel lang op de loonlijst hebben gestaan bij gerespecteerde teams als testcoureur.

    Zoals Mario aangeeft, hij zal wel nuttige feedback geven aan het team, of zou hij wellicht goede paella kunnen maken?

      Zo'n ervaren man als Pedro kan waarschijnlijk precies vertellen wat er veranderd aan het gedrag van een wagen als men iets aan de wagen wijzigt.

      Zo'n Wehlrein is leuk om hem wat te laten wennen aan een wagen, maar als 1 van de coureurs uitvalt is hij toch niet een vervanger zoals Pedro dat wel kan.

    Hij wordt morgen 44 dan moet hij toch iets bijzonders kunnen als hij bij het beste F1 team in dienst wordt genomen!
