Willis teleurgesteld in pakket van Hispania Racing

Geoff Willis is sinds het begin van dit seizoen technisch adviseur bij Hispania Racing. De voormalig technisch directeur van Red Bull Racing is niet onder de indruk van het ontwerp van de auto, geleverd door Dallara. De Brit weet dan ook nog niet of hij nog lang bij de Spaanse renstal actief blijft.

Willis vertrouwde Autosport toe: "Om eerlijk te zijn ben ik teleurgesteld. Ik had beter verwacht. Er zijn veel oorzaken aan te wijzen voor de compromissen in het ontwerp. Het project is door geldproblemen diverse keren gestopt en weer opgestart. Om Bahrein te halen is het in alle haast afgemaakt. Maar over het algemeen vind ik het niveau van engineering in de wagen tegenvallen en het komt niet in de buurt van de standaard van de Formule 1."

"Dat kan je wijten aan tijdgebrek, aan te weinig financiën of niet genoeg ervaring. Maar zelfs als ik dat meeneem in mijn beschouwing vind ik het eindproduct teleurstellend. Dan heb ik het over de bouwkwaliteit, de kwaliteit van het ontwerp en de verfijning daarvan. De wagen mist vrij veel fundamentele trucs die bij de rest van de teams de gewoonste zaak van de wereld zijn."

"Ik heb geen zin om bij een team te blijven dat niets doet om uit de achterhoede te ontsnappen. Ik wil auto's sneller maken en die hele boel managen. Het maakt me niet uit of ik vooraan voor de titel meedoe of ik een team van achteruit naar voren moet helpen. Maar dan is het wel zaak dat we de middelen hebben om de uitdaging aan te gaan en dat proberen we te weten te komen."

Klinkt niet echt positief allemaal, als dat nu al na 3 races begint moet ik nog zien of ze dit seizoen uberhaupt wel kunnen uit rijden. Wat Willis betreft geef ik hem gelijk, ik zou ook niet bij een team willen werken wat niets doet om vooruit te komen.

Tja, als je beide rijders Bruno Senna en Karun Chandhok enkel op twee momenten tijdens de GP van Maleisië niet achteraan hebben gereden maar voor de Lotus van Trulli is dat inderdaad nogal teleurstellend.
