Sebastian Vettel hakte de knoop om voor Ferrari te tekenen pas door na telefoontjes van Sergio Marchionne en Sabine Kehm. Met dat nieuws komt Maurizio Arrivabene. Na zes jaar voor Red Bull Racing te hebben gereden maakte de Duitser afgelopen winter de overstap naar het Italiaanse team, maar had daarvoor wel een zetje nodig.

"Normaal zou een directeur zich niet bemoeien met de rijderskeuze. Maar in het geval van Vettel wisten we (Arrivabene en Marchionne) allebei dat Fernando rond Sochi zou aankondigen het team te verlaten en dat de naam van Sebastian al rondzong. De situatie was alleen nog onduidelijk. Ik heb toen een telefoongesprek opgezet tussen iemand die ik goed ken en iemand die Sebastian goed kent: Sabine Kehm."

"Sabine heeft vervolgens Vettel gebeld. Sebastian vertelde dat hij twijfelde en meer wilde weten over het team. Sabine heeft vervolgens de atmosfeer beschreven ten tijde van Michael Schumacher en uitgelegd dat het team net als familie is."

"Het telefoontje dat echter het verschil maakte was die van Sergio Marchionne. Zonder dat gesprek zou Vettel hier waarschijnlijk nu niet hebben gereden."
