McLaren ondersteunt deelname Manor

Naast Ferrari heeft ook McLaren besloten Manor te helpen dit seizoen op de startgrid te verschijnen. Het nieuwe team moet nog enkele miljoenen betalen aan de renstal uit Woking, maar deze heeft besloten dat dit mag gebeuren over een langere periode dan oorspronkelijk was afgesproken.

"We zijn het eens dat ons contract met Manor een nieuwe structuur krijgt zodat het kan blijven genieten van betaalbare ondersteuning."

Volgens McLaren is dit geen poging om Manor te strikken als een 'b-team', zoals Ferrari heeft met Haas en Red Bull met Toro Rosso: "We helpen Manor om volgend jaar weer op de grid te staan, maar hebben geen behoefte om aandelen in het team te verkrijgen of onze invloed bij de renstal te vergroten."

Wat zou men hier op tegen moeten hebben? Achttien bolides op de grid is een lachertje. Dan nog beter twee extra teams op de grid die dan maar voor spek en bonen meedoen. Zolang the racing spirit er een beetje in zit, krijgen die teams in ieder geval wel de sympathie.

    Tja, kunnen ze beter wel gaan doen!

    Ze zitten nu met Magnussen, Vandoorne, Barnicoat en de Vries. Geen van allen de minst talentvolle rijders!

    Button en Alonso zijn over de grootste houdbaarheidsdatum heen en opvolging met ervaring zou wenselijk zijn voor McLaren. En rijders van buitenaf doet afbreuk aan je eigen opleiding en bijbehorende reputatie.

      Bovendien heeft Honda volgend jaar toch echt wel een tweede team nodig om meer data te krijgen voor de motoren. Manor zou dan kunnen overstappen, zonder een bedreiging vor McLaren te vormen. Ik zie niet in, welk ander team interesse zou hebben in de motoren, zeker gezien de relatie tussen McLaren en Honda.

      Naast de rijders kunnen ze zo ook sommige andere resources delen over de 2 teams. Zeker de mensen die zich bezighouden met onderdelen die de teams onderling aan elkaar mogen verkopen, de windtunnel, etc. En als Manor dan ook nog eens de Honda motor gaat gebruiken...

      Zou me niet eens verbazen als een Magnussen of een andere McLaren protege dit seizoen de 2e stoel van Manor bezet.

    Manor is in ieder geval wel een begrip in de racerij.

      Volledig mee eens.
      Alle teams zouden zich tolleranter mogen opstellen t.o.v. Manor.
      En niet (zoals FI) staan te azen op het geld dat door Marussia verdiend is door vorig jaar puntjes te sprokkelen.

    Ze zullen manor ook technisch (blijven) ondersteunen. Maar ik weet niet of Manor daar nou erg mee geholpen is.

    Ik ben McLaren wel lekker aan het afzeiken, volgens mij. Zal uit frustratie zijn.

    Satelliet team van Mc Laren. Goede zaak voor de F1 en Vandoorne. Doen zou ik zeggen.
    Honda geeft trouwens een extra team hard nodig.
