Mercedes omzeilt regel camerahouders

Eerder deze week maakte de FIA bekend dat Mercedes en Ferrari haar camerahouders moeten aanpassen. Deze zijn door de ontwerpers aerodynamisch gevormd, maar waren volgens de motorsportorganisatie te lang. Mercedes lijkt nu een weg gevonden te hebben om toch aan de regels te voldoen zonder haar camerahouder korter te hoeven maken.

Volgens de FIA moet de camerahouder volledig horizontaal zijn, iets wat Mercedes nu heeft aangepast. Het Duitse team heeft echter de camera op een originele manier vastgemaakt aan het chassis, waardoor het aerodynamische voordeel blijft.

Michael Schmidt van Auto Motor und Sport legt uit: "De camera hangt nu hoog boven de voorkant van het chassis, waardoor het de aerodynamica van de auto zo min mogelijk verstoort. Een erg slimme oplossing van Mercedes."

Twee teams zouden inmiddels al geklaagd hebben over de nieuwe camerahouder van Mercedes. Desondanks lijkt deze aangepaste versie wel aan de reglementen te voldoen.

    Dit is echt een belachelijk gezicht. Helemaal los van "goed bedacht" slaat dit echt nergens op. Ziet er niet uit en zijn 2 vleugels die los in de lucht hangen.

    Als de toegestaan wordt zit er bij de rest van de teams in Melbourne meteen dezelfde vleugeltjes, is niet erg lastig om na te maken lijkt mij.

    Mij lijkt dat hoe dan ook het een illegaal camerahouder blijft. Zolang deze aerodynamisch gevormd is, blijft hij illegaal. De regel stelt toch dat dit onderdeel niet aerodynamisch gevormd mag zijn??

      Het mag wel Aerodynamisch zijn, en is ook altijd aerodynamisch geweest. Het mag alleen niet langer dan 150mm zijn. Merc en Ferrari zeiden/vonden dat dat alleen het horizontale deel is en de FIA zegt nee het complete geval mag 150mm of het nu omhoog/omlaag of op 1 hoogte blijft

    Hebben ze ook een nieuwe 'monkeyseat'? Weer een stukje aero vernuft bij de Mercedes boys. Goed om te zien, dat zij her en der wat in de mazen van de wet hebben gevonden. Mooi is echter anders, maar zolang het werkt.
