Durango stelt zich officieel kandidaat voor Formule 1 2011

Voormalig GP2-team Durango heeft vanavond bekend gemaakt dat het zich heeft aangemeld bij de FIA als kandidaat voor het dertiende plekje op de Formule 1-grid voor 2011. Het team kende afgelopen seizoen veel financiële problemen, maar deze zouden nu opgelost zijn.

Met het vertrek van US F1 uit de Formule 1, bleef er een plaats over voor een ander team. Voor 2010 werd er geen nieuw team meer aangewezen om het plekje van het Amerikaanse team over te nemen, maar de FIA opende wel meteen de inschrijving voor 2011.

Durango heeft zich nu dus kandidaat gesteld voor de dertiende plaats op de Formule 1-grid van 2011. Het team trok zich gedurende het GP2-seizoen 2009 terug uit de klasse vanwege financiële problemen en rijdt dit seizoen helemaal niet mee. Deze financiële problemen zouden volgens teambaas Ivone Pinton nu helemaal opgelost zijn.

"Nadat er veel verkeerde dingen zijn gebeurd vorig jaar hebben we ons best gedaan om nieuwe partners in ons raceprogramma te betrekken", begon Pinton. "Er bleek vooral veel interesse te zijn voor de Formule 1 en we zijn daarna onze mogelijkheden in die richting ook gaan bekijken. Nu we daadwerkelijk de stap hebben gezet om de Formule 1 in te stappen, kunnen we rekenen op twee grote sponsoren."

Nou dat kan ook zo`n zelfde story worden als US .maar misschien denken ze als die andere nieuwe teams met een wagen mee kunnen doen die qua snelheid nog langzamer is dan de gp2 waarom dan niet
