Vettel verwacht spannend gevecht achter dominant Mercedes

Sebastian Vettel verwacht een gevecht tussen drie teams voor de titel 'best of the rest' achter Mercedes. Volgens de Duitser is Mercedes net als vorig jaar het snelste team met marge, maar daarachter is het een stuk spannender.

"Het is nog lastig te zeggen, maar in twee weken weten we meer", aldus Vettel in gesprek met ESPN. "Het is echter duidelijk dat Mercedes een flink stuk voorop ligt." De Duitser is van mening dat er zich een spannend gevecht kan ontvouwen achter Mercedes tussen Ferrari, Williams en Red Bull Racing.

"Daarachter lijkt er dan weer een gaatje te zitten en dan is het weer spannend tussen verschillende teams", vervolgt Vettel. "Het is lastig om nu te zeggen wie direct achter Mercedes staat, maar ik denk dat het erg spannend wordt tussen Williams, Red Bull en onszelf."

Wanneer gevraagd hoe Vettel denkt dat de eerste drie startrijen er in Melbourne uitzien, antwoordde de viervoudig-wereldkampioen: "De eerste twee plaatsen is erg makkelijk te zeggen, tenzij ze problemen hebben. Dat worden helaas de Mercedessen. Daarna hoop ik op twee Ferrari's en wat daarachter staat, maakt me niet uit."
