Dokter raadde McLaren rentree van Hakkinen af

Aki Hintsa, de dokter van McLaren, heeft in 2006 een comeback van Mika Hakkinen verhinderd. Dat onthult MTV3-verslaggever Oskari Saari in een boek over de Finse fysio van McLaren. De Britse renstal overwoog om tweevoudig wereldkampioen Hakkinen voor 2006 uit zijn pensioen te halen.

Twee jaar eerder was de Fin al in beeld geweest bij Williams. McLaren-baas Ron Dennis liet in 2006 Hintsa bij hem langs komen en stelde hem de vraag of een terugkeer van Hakkinen in de Formule 1 mogelijk zou zijn. Het antwoord van de dokter liet niks aan duidelijkheid te wensen over.

"Geen schijn van kans. Dat geloof ik met ziel en zaligheid, ik kan niet liegen", was de reactie van Hintsa. Hij achtte het niet voor mogelijk dat Hakkinen nog op het toppen van zijn kunnen zou presteren na vier jaar afwezigheid in de Formule 1.
