Contact tussen Vettel en Ferrari dateert uit 2008

Stefano Domenicali heeft in 2008 namens Ferrari het eerste contact gelegd met Sebastian Vettel. Dat onthulde de Duitser in gesprek met Gazzetta dello Sport. Zeven jaar later is het zover, Vettel begint dit jaar aan zijn eerste seizoen in dienst van de Scuderia. "De eerste informele benadering door Domenicali dateert uit 2008", aldus Vettel.

Ferrari is de Duitser nooit meer uit het oog verloren. Vettel: "In 2010 ben ik nogmaals benaderd door Stefano. In de winter van 2012/2013 ging ik in het geheim naar Maranello om met Luca di Montezemolo te praten. Halverwege vorig jaar was Domenicali reeds vertrokken, maar het contact bleef aanhouden, via Marco Mattiacci en Di Montezemolo."

"We kwamen tot een akkoord en ik vroeg de mening van Sabine Kehm, de manager van Michael Schumacher. Helaas kon ik niet met Michael zelf praten. In een verder verleden heb ik wel met hem over het aanbod van Domenicali gesproken. Michael zei me dat ik bij Ferrari een geweldige sfeer en een groot enthousiasme aan zou treffen. Hij had gelijk."

Ik denk dat Vettel graag naar Ferrari wilde, hij zou gek zijn RBR te verlaten zolang hij daar een winnende auto had. Hij zal dan ook gezegd hebben, bel me maar als het slecht gaat met RBR:)
