Ferrari: "Drie auto's per team niet de oplossing"

Ferrari-teambaas Maurizio Arrivabene is geen voorstander van het inzetten van een derde wagen om de grid aan te vullen in het geval dat er weer een paar teams omvallen. Dat plan zweeft door de financiële problemen bij een aantal renstallen boven de Formule 1 en is bedacht door niemand anders dan Bernie Ecclestone. Maar Arrivabene ziet het liever anders.

"Het is een idee dat geen steun geniet onder de teams, het is een impopulair vooruitzicht", begint de Italiaan. "Niet in de laatste plaats vanwege de extra kosten en het tijdsbestek dat met de constructie van een extra auto gepaard gaan. Het is niet iets waar ik persoonlijk achter sta, maar als Ferrari zijn we wel bereid het te doen, mocht de nood aan de man zijn."

"Het is afhankelijk van de situatie. Als een derde wagen inzetten de enige uitweg is, natuurlijk doe je daar dan aan mee. Maar het is niet ons doel. Onze insteek is om meer fabrikanten en teams te lokken en een zo groot en competitief mogelijke grid samen te stellen. Drie auto's per team is niet de oplossing. Het is zaak een situatie te creëren waardoor we meer renstallen aantrekken."
