McLaren calculeert overtreden motorenlimiet in

Het team van McLaren beseft dat het reëel is dat haar coureurs dit jaar meer dan het maximaal toegestane aantal motoren van vier nodig hebben om het seizoen af te maken. De Honda V6 van de Britse renstal kampte tijdens de wintertests nog met veel kinderziektes. McLaren calculeert eventuele grid penalty's voor het overschrijden van de limiet alvast in.

Racing director Eric Boullier deelde aan Autosport mede: "Ja, dat is wel iets dat ons zorgen baart. We prepareren onszelf en Honda om met vier motoren het hele seizoen te voltooien, maar we zagen vorig jaar al sommige teams worstelen om zich daar aan te houden. Het wordt een grote uitdaging. Maar dat zal niet alleen voor ons het geval zijn."

"Het klopt dat de betrouwbaarheid van de motor tot nu toe te wensen over heeft gelaten en omdat we te weinig kilometers gemaakt hebben, weten we niet welke andere problemen het chassis ons nog voor de voeten kan werpen. Je hebt te maken met een bepaalde volgorde en pas als de aandrijflijn betrouwbaar is kunnen we de auto verder ontwikkelen."
