Pastor Maldonado ontkent gesprekken met BMW Sauber

Pastor Maldonado ontkent dat hij gesprekken voert met BMW Sauber over een racestoeltje bij het Zwitserse team. De Venezolaan zou, volgens de geruchten in de GP2-paddock, over enkele races Pedro de la Rosa zouden kunnen vervangen bij het team.

Tijdens de tweede testdag van de GP2 Series vandaag in Barcelona doken de geruchten op dat Pastor Maldonado, viervoudig GP2-racewinnaar, wel eens de vervanger zou kunnen worden van Pedro de la Rosa. Maldonado zou zelfs al tijdens de Grand Prix van Spanje of Monaco in kunnen stappen bij Sauber.

Maldonado ontkent echter de geruchten over een racecontract bij Sauber. "Vorig jaar had ik de kans om in de Formule 1 te stappen, maar toen kwamen de problemen rond Stefan GP", vertelde Maldonado tegen GPUpdate in Barcelona. "Daarna voerden we nog gesprekken met Campos, nu Hispania, maar helaas hadden we niet genoeg sponsoren."

"We zijn natuurlijk nog altijd bezig om een zitje in de Formule 1 te bemachtigen, maar dat is tegenwoordig erg lastig. Om bij kleine teams te racen heb je al veel geld nodig, maar om genoeg geld voor de grootste teams bij elkaar te krijgen is bijna onmogelijk. Ik ben op dit moment echter niet in gesprek met BMW Sauber", bevestigde Maldonado.
