Frustraties bij Ricciardo na thuisrace

Daniel Ricciardo vertelde na afloop van de Grand Prix in Australië gefrustreerd te zijn met het geboekte resultaat. De Red Bull Racing-coureur finishte als zesde. Het team kende in aanloop naar de eerste race, in de wintertests, echter veel mechanische problemen maar ook de Renault-motor baart het team zorgen.

De altijd goedlachse coureur vertelde na afloop: "Ik ben nog goed weggekomen met een paar punten, buiten dat is er weinig te melden. Gekeken naar de betrouwbaarheid hebben we het einde gehaald. We hebben 50 ronden aan data weten te verzamelen waar we iets mee kunnen. We hebben ook geluk gehad vandaag, maar hierdoor moeten we wel meer snelheid weten te vinden."

Ricciardo was lange tijd in gevecht met debutant Felipe Nasr, die een prima prestatie leverde in de Sauber. "Ik probeerde hem in te halen. De hele race heb ik geprobeerd om er iets van te maken maar we konden gewoon niet dichterbij de Sauber komen. Ik heb verschillende dingen gedaan maar meer dan dat lukte niet. Het ging op zich best goed maar na een tijdje kregen we problemen met de driveability van de wagen, waardoor ik het lastig was met schakelen. Hopelijk kunnen we beter presteren in de komende races."

Ik houd me hart vast of Red Bull over twee jaar nog wel op de grid te bewonderen is, nu de F1 op zo'n dwaalspoor zit.

Was te verwachten. Newey loopt al meer dan 12 maanden te roepen dat het een motorenkampioenschap is, met slechts weinig ontwikkelingsruimte voor aero en chassis.
Rbr kan dan wel jarenlang de beste chassis hebben gebouwd, maar met de beperkte ruimte van nu is het een kwestie van tijd alvorens de concurrentie bijbeent.
De pikorde is gebaseerd op de motor: amg merc; merc klanten = fer; ren; honda.
Als de merc klanten teams voldoende budget hebben zullen ze blijven ontwikkelen en rbr definitief voorbij steken (zoals Williams al deed vorig jaar).

  Onzin natuurlijk zijn motoren belangrijk en die van Renault trekt het niet [zie motoren in uitslag] maar niet alleen Newey heeft verstand van auto's bouwen en ze kunnen in het seizoen meer veranderen aan de aero dan aan de motor.

Zit geen power in die Renault, dat is wel duidelijk. Betrouwbaarheid is nog steeds niet best, goed bezig geweest Renault afgelopen winter.

Zorgwekkend is het echter nu ook dat STR op sommige punten beter is dan RBR - en dat met dezelfde motor.

Ik vindt het ergens wel jammer voor Ricciardo, maar totaal niet voor RB. Ik hoop dat TR ze vaak sneller af zal zijn.
