Boullier: "Suprematie van Mercedes niet slecht"

Eric Boullier heeft zich aangesloten bij de alsmaar uitdijende groep mensen uit de boezem van de Formule 1 die vindt dat Mercedes niets kwalijk te nemen valt. Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner riep na de eentonige race in Australië op tot regelwijzigingen om meer gelijkheid aan te brengen. Hij vond daarvoor weinig tot geen gehoor bij zijn collega's.

Ook de racing director van McLaren voelt daar niks voor. Boullier: "Ik denk niet dat de suprematie van Mercedes slecht is voor de sport. Natuurlijk wil iedereen dat de verschillen zo klein zijn als in 2012 en 2013, maar elke technische verandering in de Formule 1 opent de mogelijkheid om een groot voordeel te verkrijgen, meer nog dan via een sportieve verandering."

"Het is geen verrassing. Voor een mooie rivaliteit tussen Mercedes en een ander team zal iedereen even geduld op moeten brengen. De concurrenten zullen het gat uiteindelijk dichten. Het duurt misschien wat langer dan verwacht voordat de motoren van alle leveranciers aan elkaar gewaagd zijn, maar het is niet anders."

    Ook weer zo'n twee linkerhanden figuur die totaal geen racehart heeft. Wat een drama zo'n kerel samen met die Wolff.

      Teambazen van 2 grootste teams functioneren in jou ogen niet? Waar baseer je dat op?
      Volgens mij hebben ze zich bewezen bij Lotus en Mercedes.

      Tja, ben geen fan van de man maar het is ook geen racer maar een teamleider. Nietszeggende kritiek dus, en om dan ook nog de teambaas er bij halen van het team dat vorig jaar beide titels won....

    Precies. Dit is wat ik ook al aanhaalde. Grote veranderingen zorgen nou éénmaal altijd voor grotere verschillen in het begin. Zo is dat altijd al geweest in de Formule 1. Later worden vinden andere de aansluiting wel weer. Zo niet, dan doe je iets niet goed genoeg en verdien je het ook niet. Ik zie het eerste gevaar voor Mercedes uit de hoek van Ferrari komen.

      Ja, alleen is het hele systeem erachter rot. Daarmee doel ik op dat tokensysteem dat elk jaar strenger wordt. Fabrikanten hebben dus nog een paar jaar om bij te halen, of die Mercedes blijft altijd de snelste. Ook het door het jaar doorontwikkelen zou de eerste 5 jaar absoluut niet beperkt mogen worden, toch niet bij een nieuwe motor... Je ontneemt de kans aan teams om bij te benen of nieuwe dingen te proberen. Ze moeten zeker zijn van iets, anders zet je het er niet op want dan ben je je oh zo belangrijke tokens kwijt. Dat is het belachelijke eraan.
