Frijns: "Nu de kans om een carrière op te bouwen"

Robin Frijns is komend seizoen te bewonderen in de Blancpain Sprint- en Endurance Series. De Nederlander kiest voor een carrière in de GT-racerij, nadat een stoeltje in de Formule 1 buiten bereik bleek. Frijns heeft zin in het nieuwe seizoen.

"Ik ga rijden voor Belgian Audi Club Team WRT in een Audi R8 LMS Ultra. Ik rijd in de Blancpain Sprint Series met mijn oude teammaat Laurens Vanthoor en in de Endurance Series met Jean-Karl Vernay", aldus Frijns. "Het is eluk, want ik heb tijdens mijn kartperiode vijf jaar met Laurens voor het GKS-kartteam gereden en nu racen we samen voor Audi."

"Het is een ander wereldje dan de World Series by renault of het GP2-kampioenschap. Ik heb de kans gehad om komend seizoen GP2 te rijden, maar nu kan ik een carrière opbouwen in proberen te rijden voor een fabrieksteam."

"WRT is uiteraard een mooi team en ze zijn succesvol in de GT-racerij. Het racen in zo'n auto is wel nieuw en een uitdaging. Het is wennen met een rolkooi en het sturen gaat anders dan ik gewend ben. Het is echter erg leuk en de Audi is een echte racewagen. Ik heb pas twee dagen achter het stuur gehad, maar ik kijk ontzettend uit naar het seizoen. Ik kan racen en dat is wat ik wil."

Het is ook wel fijn nu er gewoon een autosportteam is die moeite doet om je binnen te halen, in plaats ze eerst het prijskaartje bij je neerleggen en dan maar zien hoe het gaat. Waardering voor je talent, dat is minstens zo belangrijk!

    Als hij Audi kan overtuigen heeft hij idd mogelijkheden om door te groeien naar series als DTM en WEC, geen slechte stap dus.

    Misschien een hele rare gedachte, maar als ie ECHT weet te overtuigen. En Audi gaat toch de F1 in. Misschien toch een kans voor hem? Ik weet het, het is misschien ver gezocht. Maar dromen mag toch?

      Ik hoop het voor hem, maar heeft hij niet 2 jaar in het wel bekende putje gegooid door 2 jaar mogen meekijken als testrijder in de F1 zonder iets erbij te doen ??

      Als Audi echt naar de F1 wil, dan zullen ze graag een Duitse coureur zien. Audi heeft natuurlijk zat coureurs die ook in de Le mans series rijden. Plus DTM...

      Dan hebben ze natuurlijk nog een hoop ander talent in hun rijdersbestand, maar Frijns heeft inderdaad wel een heel mooi CV. En dan zijn er natuurlijk de huidige F1 coureurs waar ze uit kunnen putten.

      Laat hem maar eens in DTM of WEC doorgroeien, en als de wind de goede kant op staat, dan wie weet.
      Wel kan Frijns in alle rust gaan kijken voor een 2016 F1 stoeltje (Haas F1?) of een reserve stoeltje voor dit jaar.

      Maar een succesvolle carriere in GT's of LMP's is zeker ook niet verkeerd !

      Dat Robin 2 jaar lang geen F1 heeft gereden en alleen maar heeft toegekeken hoeft volgens mij geen belemmering te zijn voor Audi. Als hij echt zo goed is al dat wij denken dan maakt het volgens mij weinig uit wat ie hiervoor heeft gedaan.
      En dat Audi 2 Duitsers zou willen vraag ik me af. Mercedes rijdt toch ook niet met 2 Duitsers? Ferarri rijdt toch ook niet niet met 2 Italianen? En zo kan ik nog wel even doorgaan gezien het verleden.

      Juist ! En Robin is een jongen die daar gevoelig voor is. In een team waar hij zich thuis en gewaardeerd voelt kan hij extra opbloeien.

    Heb er toch een dubbel gevoel bij. Enerzijds verdient die gast echt wel beter. Langs de andere kant, als hij dan toch Blancpain gaat rijden, dan heeft hij wel een goed team en ditto teamgenoot gekozen. Al bij al toch een mooie uitdaging enneuh ... wie weet? ;)

    Ik heb liever dat we lopen te zeuren dat Frijns in een voor zijn doen te lage klasse rijdt, dan dat we zeuren dat hij helemaal nergens rijdt. En zoals in een ander topic geroepen werd, mindere piloten als Porsche super_cup "Maldonado" Rene (c)Ras(h)t is het ook gelukt om via de Blancpain naar de hogere Gt-klassen of DTM te komen. Evenals wél talentvolle rijders als Fred Macowiecki (naar Le Mans en ALMS), Maxime Martin (naar ADAC GT Masters en DTM) en Maximilian Götz (naar VLN en DTM). Keuzes zat, je moet ze alleen durven maken.

    Eindelijk weer achter het stuur. .. goed zo. .. en is een leuk kampioenschap. . Veel auto's.. snelle wagens... en een klein tikje mag ook nog wel. Past ie goed in thuis (positief bedoel) .. En kan hij mee door naar andere klasses...

    het is te hopen dat robin ooit nog een kans krijgt in de f1 en dat hij zijn talent kan laten zien,persoonlijk had ik hem toch liever een heel jaar willen zien rijden in de gp2 maar goed hij kan nou eindelijk toch weer rijden.
