Renault haalt inspiratie uit overwinning Ferrari

Renault vindt het bemoedigend dat Ferrari in Maleisië de zege in de wacht sleepte. Dat is het ultieme bewijs dat Mercedes wel degelijk te verslaan is. Het duurt waarschijnlijk nog even voordat de teams met Renault-krachtbronnen daartoe in staat zijn, maar is in elk geval geen onmogelijke opgave. Sebastian Vettel en Ferrari hebben Renault hoop gegeven.

Cyril Abiteboul van Renault Sport F1: "Ferrari heeft de afgelopen maanden uitmuntend werk geleverd. Het toont aan dat Mercedes te verslaan is als alle ingrediënten kloppen. We moeten ons op ons eigen werk focussen, het is een kwestie van de lange adem en wij dienen elke sessie weer te pushen om vooruitgang te boeken."

Positief was wel dat de vier coureurs met Renault-motoren allen de finish haalden. "Dit was al meer in de richting van wat het in Australië had moeten zijn. De betrouwbaarheid is al langer in orde, zoals het hoort, en de verbeteringen aan de rijbaarheid stelden de teams in staat om op de set-up te focussen en meer potentieel van hun wagens aan te spreken. Op een ronde achterstand van de winnaars eindigen is niet wat we willen, we weten wat ons te doen staat."
