Collega's voorzien reuzenstappen van McLaren

Het team van McLaren zal gedurende dit seizoen met sprongen vooruit gaan. Dat gevoel overheerst bij enkele coureurs van andere renstallen. McLaren-Honda hield in Maleisië alleen Manor achter zich, maar de achterstand op de voorhoede was al een stuk kleiner dan in Australië.

Toro Rosso-coureur Carlos Sainz boog zich voor Marca over het lot van Fernando Alonso. "Hij staat aan het begin van het proces in een omvangrijk project. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat ze snel reuzenstappen vooruit zullen zetten in een poging om het gat te dichten."

Daniel Ricciardo van Red Bull Racing voegde daar in El Mundo Deportivo aan toe: "Fernando Alonso en Jenson Button zijn zeer ervaren coureurs, wereldkampioenen. Ik weet zeker dat ze binnen niet al te lange termijn voor het podium gaan meedoen."

    Ze zullen wel stappen zetten, maar geen reuzenstappen. Ik denk dat ze pas komend jaar redelijk erbij kunnen zitten. Ik ben nooit overtuigd geweest van het ontwikkelingsniveau van Alonso en Button om een auto verder te ontwikkelen. Daarbij is het vermogen van Honda toch het grootste struikelblok van het team en daar kunnen de rijders toch niet echt aan bijdragen.

      De prognose van boekjaar 2014 (die gister afliep) was 4,4 miljard euro winst. Met het vermogen zit het dus wel goed.

      Vermogen van de PU is voor jou en mij een raadsel.

    Reuzenstappen.. Ja dat kan ook bijna niet anders als je bekijkt waar McLaren vandaan moet komen.

      Hoop Jenson en Fernando snel weer voorin te zien rijden. Als ze het niveau van Red Bull en Williams zouden kunnen evenaren en samen achter Mercedes en Ferrari kunnen strijden dan zou dat al fantastisch zijn mocht dat lukken voor dit seizoen.

    Tja, de vraag is hoe goed is de motor als deze eenmaal op zijn volle sterkte is. Wat geeft de motor dan nog toe op Renault/Ferrari/Mercedes?

    Dat McLaren een goede auto heeft gebouwd die mee moet kunnen komen in de subtop geloof ik wel, dat doen ze immers al jaren.

    Ze eindigen ergens in de middenmoot denk ik, op de positie waar Toro Rosso nu rijdt. Na Ferrari, Mercedes en Williams. Best of the rest, dat moet erin zitten met zoveel middelen en geld van Honda erachter. Gaat goedkomen daar, alleen dom dat ze vorig jaar geen ontwikkelingsauto hebben gebouwd. Dat kost ze een jaar extra nu.

      Ik denk dat het beleid van MW met pas afgestudeerden op de technische afdelingen een groter probleem was. Die moeten natuurlijk wel een goede leermeester hebben maar die waren weggekocht.

    Als je ziet met wat voor een sprongen ze de afgelopen 2 grand prix gaan en daar de wintertest naast legt, dan gaat het zeker niet slecht. Ze zitten nu al bijna op de staart van het veld (Manor even buiten beschouwing genomen).

    De glimlach van Alonso na de kwalificatie in gesprek met Lee McKenzie van BBC zei ook al genoeg. Ook Fernando verwachtte dat hij snel in staat moet zijn op zijn minst Q2 te halen. En dat betekend dat Q3 ook mogelijk moet zijn, gezien hoe dicht de teams bij elkaar zitten in de kwalificatie, momenteel.
    Ze moeten alleen die Honda betrouwbaarder krijgen. Dat is op dit moment het grootste probleem.

      Tijdens de race deden ze niet onder voor RBR en FI, en ook Sauber en STR waren niet ver weg. Het is een kwestie van tijd totdat McLaren voor Williams staat.

    Ik denk dat ze wel de mogelijkheden hebben om bijvoorbeeld Force India, Sauber en Lotus in te halen. Moet zien of ze verder dan dat komen maar is denk ik beter in te schatten na de eerste race in Europa.

    Onderaan de berg maakt men altijd de grootste stappen, maar 't zijn die laatste en steilste kort bij de top die er echt toe doen...
    Ik twijfel er niet aan dat McLaren-Honda redelijk snel zal meedoen met de subtop. Vraag is wanneer ze Ferrari en Merc kunnen bijbenen. Het potentieel en de middelen zijn er, nu de rest nog.

    Laten we hopen dat het snel goed komt. Kan Stoffel meteen in een winnende auto stappen :p

    Op het moment dat ze de ERS op orde krijgen en die eindelijk kunnen gaan gebruiken zullen ze inderdaad wel een flinke sprong gaan maken. Maar een flinke sprong naar voren is natuurlijk niet zo moeilijk vanaf de laatste plaats. Verder naar achteren kunnen ze in ieder geval niet...
