Voor Renault begon het seizoen in Maleisië en volgens de Franse motorleverancier schakelt Red Bull Racing in China een tandje bij. In Sjanghai start het jaar in feite echt voor de Oostenrijkse renstal. Remi Taffin van Renault Sport F1 op Canal Plus: "Vanaf China gaat het pas echt leuk worden."

Hij vervolgt: "Het was even slikken voor Red Bull, ze zijn het niet gewend om niet vooraan mee te doen. Maar we hebben pas twee races gehad. In geen van beide Grands Prix heeft Red Bull kunnen laten zien waartoe ze in staat zijn en in Australië was dat deels onze schuld. Op Sepang was het van onze kant al beter en zagen we een glimp van wat we van Red Bull-Renault kunnen verwachten."

"Ons seizoen begon eigenlijk pas in Maleisië. Red Bull zal haar problemen oplossen voor China en dan kan het leuk worden. Ik ga niet zeggen dat wij die race even winnen, maar we hebben veel potentie, zowel met het chassis als met de motor. We hebben niet per toeval vier keer de wereldtitel gewonnen samen. Red Bull is een meester in het ontwikkelen van de auto en vroeg of laat zal dat zich uitbetalen."
