VT1: Mercedes toont spierballen met Hamilton

Het team van Mercedes heeft de eerste vrije training voor de Grand Prix van China benut om het een en ander recht te zetten. Lewis Hamilton produceerde een 1:39.033 op het circuit van Sjanghai en teamgenoot Nico Rosberg zette de tweede tijd neer met een 1:39.574. Belangrijker echter is dat het gat naar Ferrari groter was dan in Maleisië.

Sebastian Vettel en Kimi Raikkonen waren wel het beste van de rest, maar wel op meer dan een seconde van Hamilton. Het ging trouwens niet allemaal van een leien dakje bij Mercedes. De Duitse renstal heeft een nieuwe voorvleugel bij en dat was even wennen. Hamilton schoot even rechtdoor in bocht 14 en beide coureurs belandden in bocht 6 naast de baan.

De regerend wereldkampioen was niet de enige die moeite had met bocht 14. Felipe Massa spinde er en verder verremden meerdere rijders zich daar, waaronder Sebastian Vettel. Ook Max Verstappen ging daar twee keer iets te wijd, maar verder was het een redelijke sessie voor de jonge Nederlander. Hij noteerde de twaalfde tijd en reed de meeste ronden van iedereen.

Teamgenoot Carlos Sainz was een paar tienden sneller, maar de Spanjaard ging aan het begin van de sessie ook in de fout. Hij spinde in de lang doordraaiende combinatie van bochten 1 en 2. GP2-kampioen Jolyon Palmer maakte zijn debuut tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend en hij beleefde gelijk een momentje. De Brit gooide zijn Lotus in tussen bochten 8 en 9 in de rondte.

Sainz lijkt in de Vrije trainingen wat meer op de limiet te rijden, hij is vaak net wat sneller maar heeft ook al wat spins achter de rug itt tot Max.
meer een kwestie van benadering dan snelheid, maar uiteindelijk moeten we de kwalificaties afwachten. Zolang Max daar maar regelmatig sneller is ... [Lees verder]

ben benieuwt hoe de verhoudingen in de race zijn. Het is nog maar vrijdag en heb toch stille hoop dat het in de kwali al meevalt. En het gaat uiteindelijk om de racesnelheid die bepaald hoe de wedstrijd verloopt.

Info over Sainz in het coureursprofiel klopt niet, hij rijdt met nr. 55. Kvyat, die vorig jaar in de TR reed heeft nr. 26. Voor wat het waard is....
