Vettel kwam in Bahrein niet in het juiste ritme

Sebastian Vettel beleefde in Bahrein zijn minste dag in dienst van Ferrari tot op heden. De Duitser beging wat slordige foutjes en finishte als vijfde. Dat kan een keer gebeuren, de viervoudig wereldkampioen is ook maar een mens, stelde teambaas Maurizio Arrivabene na afloop. In zijn eerste maanden bij de Scuderia heeft Vettel al vaak genoeg zijn waarde bewezen.

Zelf zei de Duitser: "Ik pushte hard en maakte daarbij wat fouten. De race was verre van perfect. Ik kon mijn ritme maar niet vinden en verloor plekken op momenten in de wedstrijd dat het belangrijk was om geen posities te verliezen. Dat kostte ons veel tijd en aan het einde moest ik een extra keer de pits in om mijn neus te laten vervangen, dat wierp me ver terug."

"Over het algemeen worstelde ik in Bahrein meer met de achterkant van de auto dan ik tot nu toe gedaan had. Dat is belangrijk voor het accelereren uit de bochten en wat dat betreft was ik kwetsbaar in de gevechten met Nico Rosberg. Ook in het duel met Valtteri Bottas speelde dat me parten. Ik kon niet dichtbij genoeg blijven om hem in te halen."

"Toch overheerst na de overzeese beginfase het positieve. Het is voor iedereen een verrassing hoe goed we zijn. We hebben weer een sterk weekend achter de rug. Het doel is om Mercedes te pakken. We staan vlak achter hen, maar ze zijn nog wel licht in het voordeel ten opzichte van ons. Er valt genoeg te verbeteren, daar concentreer ik me nu op."

Volgens mij waren die 'strakes' op de onderkant afgebroken. In ieder geval een paar.

Vettel was snel maar maakte te veel foutjes waardoor hij zichzelf buiten spel zette voor een podiumplaats.

Kan inderdaad de beste wel eens gebeuren dat het niet lukt. Vond het ook apart om te zien dat hij Bottas niet bij kon houden tijdens het accelereren uit de bochten terwijl hij het gaat steeds zo makkelijk dicht reed naar hem toe.

Weet iemand wat er nou precies met die voorvleugel aan da hand was? Hij zag er niet echt beschadigd uit, maar dat ze hem wisselde terwijl Vettel een grote voorsprong op Bottas had betekend toch wel dat er serieus iets aan de hand was.

Was duidelijk niet Vettel's zijn dag kan gebeuren maar tot nu toe dikke duim voor Ferrari.
