VW Group flirt met de F1 na machtsverschuiving

De Volkswagen Group benut de komende achttien maanden om het autosportprogramma van de diverse merken die onder de groep vallen te herstructureren. Daarbij is geen rol weggelegd voor voorzitter Ferdinand Piech. De man die tot nu toe als grootste obstakel voor een Formule 1-project gezien werd is op een zijspoor gerangeerd.

Piech had geprobeerd directeur en voormalig oogappel Martin Winterkorn buiten de deur te werken. In een spoedzitting kozen de commissarissen de zijde van Winterkorn. Hij kreeg een nieuw contract voor de lange termijn aangeboden terwijl Piech na 2017 het veld moet ruimen. En daardoor is de Formule 1 weer een optie, mogelijk vanaf 2018.

Audi is de meest waarschijnlijke kandidaat om een Formule 1-team op te starten, maar Motorsport.com meldt dat Suzuki en Bugatti in de afgelopen jaren ook studies naar de haalbaarheid hebben verricht. Zonder Piech is de kans dat de VW Group in de F1 stapt in elk geval gegroeid, aangezien hij ook niet door één deur kon met Bernie Ecclestone.

Slecht bericht. Piech moet helemaal niet het veld ruimen, dit staat al jaren vast en verloopt gewoon volgens planning. Daarnaast is hij helemaal niet op een zijspoor gerangeerd.     Toch wel bizar dat een concern met 200 miljard omzet het wel of niet toetreden tot de F1 af laat hangen van het feit dat 2 individuen elkaar niet mogen.

      Niet echt eigenlijk. Je komt op dat soort posities omdat je de ervaring hebt, je bewezen heb leiding te kunnen geven en je hebt laten zien capaciteiten te hebben. Als je dan eenmaal op zo'n positie komt, dan heb je dus ook beslissingsbevoegdheden verdiend waardoor je beleid mag maken. En omdat je je hebt bewezen in het verleden gaat het bedrijf er vanuit dat je de juiste beslissingen voor de firma zal nemen.

Hij had commentaar op Winterkorn en de tegenvallende resultaten van het Volkswagen merk in de VS. De media maakte dr een soort van self fullfilling prophecy van waardoor het bestuur zich genoodzaakt voelde steun uit te spreken voor Winterkorn.

    Zou mooi zijn als ze bij de Red Bull teams dan binnenkort Renault kunnen dumpen en verder gaan met Audi/VW/Porsche of Lamborghini(dat zou toch helemaal mooi zijn: Red Bull Lamborghini en Toro Rosso Lamborghini?)

      binnenkort Renault dumpen? hoe had je dat gezien? VAG zal ten eerste ontwikkelwerk nodig hebben, dus niet op korte termijn en ten tweede zal het niet voor 2017 zijn. Ik zou ook wel willen dat ze op korte termijn een motor leverancier zouden kunnen dumpen, maar helaas.
      Verwacht overigens wel dat Renault er weer bovenop komt gezien hun rijke race verleden, maar op korte termijn.....ik vrees het ergste voor Red Bull en met name voor Max natuurlijk die met volle overtuiging het seizoen aanving met de gedachte dikke punten te pakken.

      Ben ik niet met je eens. Renault zit in een dipje, maar gaat daar zeker uitkomen. Niet binnen 6 weken denk ik trouwens. Ik word trouwens een beetje moe van al die mensen die Renault nu in afvallen. Echt een naam in de F-1.

      Renault heeft anders toch aardig wat kampioenschappen op haar naam staan. Verder is er totaal geen garantie dat Audi of wie dan ook het wel even beter zou gaan doen

    Er zijn er hier die menen dat je Renault niet mag afvallen. Maar Renault roept na elk weekend sinds de eerste wintertests van allerlei domme onzin in de trant van dat het goed komt. En den mogen wij niet even klagen omdat we gewoon voor de gek worden gehouden door die Fransen.

    Ik zie het al voor me: Bernard E. wordt eruit geflikkerd, Audi koopt RBR over en maakt zijn intrede, TR wordt verpatst aan Renault, RB koopt de aandelen van CVC over en runt de ganse show ipv teams en Horner wordt de nieuwe Bernard ... of zoiets.
