Williams moet ontwikkelingstempo opschroeven

Als het team van Williams nog iets van dit seizoen wil maken, dan dient het zich sneller te ontwikkelen dan Mercedes en Ferrari. Dat is makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan, beseft ook engineer Rob Smedley. Maar Williams is niet van plan om zich neer te leggen bij de huidige plek in de pikorde.

Smedley: "We hebben vier races gehad en is het is vrij duidelijk wat ons te doen staat. We hebben wat upgrades in de pijplijn voor Spanje. Het is waarschijnlijk wat te veel gevraagd om Ferrari in Barcelona al bij te halen, zeker qua racesnelheid, maar het uiteindelijke doel is wel om ze te vangen."

"We optimaliseren het huidige pakket vrij goed. Er zit misschien iets meer, maar geen grote happen aan tijdwinst. Als we aan willen haken bij de teams voor ons, dan is het zaak om het chassis of het hele pakket sneller te ontwikkelen dan zij. En dat is wel het doel, om aansluiting bij de top te vinden."

Jammer dat Williams de goede lijn van 2014 niet door heeft kunnen trekken. Halverwege 2014 (Oostenrijk) deden ze niet veel onder voor Mercedes. Daarna werd het gat groter en nu volgen ze als 3e op een redelijke afstand van Ferrari.. Had ze er vooraan graag bij gezien.
