Prodromou: "McLaren was de weg kwijt geraakt"

Mede dankzij inspanningen van Peter Prodromou probeert McLaren het tij te keren. Het topteam van weleer heeft al jaren geen race meer gewonnen, maar de weg naar boven is ingeslagen. Die overtuiging heerst in elk geval in Woking. Aan de hand van de vorig jaar van Red Bull Racing overgekomen aerodynamicaspecialist Prodromou zet McLaren stappen.

"De afgelopen seizoen was het team de weg kwijt geraakt wat betreft de aerodynamica", begint Prodromou. "Het was duidelijk dat er met het vorige concept niet heel veel meer mogelijk was. Daarom hebben we een ander aerodynamisch concept en een andere manier van werken geïnitieerd. Dat nieuwe concept vormt de leidraad voor de richting die het team op gaat. De auto van volgend jaar is een evolutie van de huidige bolide, die we tot en met het einde doorontwikkelen."

Racing director Eric Boullier verkondigde eerder al dat McLaren het slagingspercentage van nieuwe onderdelen aanzienlijk heeft verhoogd. "Vorig jaar had ongeveer vijftig procent van onze updates geen of weinig effect op onze performance. Dit jaar hebben we dat percentage terug gebracht naar vijf tot tien procent."

    pfff, praatjes.
    tot nu toe niets anders dan praatjes uit het McLaren kamp.

    Laat maar es zien dan.

      Als je er zelf niet in geloofd gebeurd het sowieso niet. McLaren was zo diep gezakt dat ze nu alleen nog maar omhoog kunnen kijken, dat doen ze nu dus ook. Is absoluut geen praatjes maken zoals jij het interpreteert het is kleur bekennen dat het gewoon bar en bar slecht was en de vorige auto totaal niks in zat.

      Ze zijn vanaf 0 begonnen met deze auto en misschien wel vanaf -1 gezien het te laat af hebben van de huidige auto. Dan mag je niet meer verwachten dan dat ze pas volgend jaar echt beterschap tonen. Die staan er volgend jaar echt wel weer bij.

      Denk ook niet dat het praatjes zijn. Wat heeft het voor zin om mee te delen dat je updates wel werken terwijl het niet zo is..
      @SanderF1: Ik kwam nog wat interessante info tegen over de turbo die Honda gebruikt. Het turbine gedeelte waar het uitlaat spruitstuk op zit is conventioneel. Maar de compressor is geen turbine zoals bij gewone turbo's maar is axiaal (net als een lamellen ventilator) Deze is heel smal en lang en ligt samen met de mgu-h tussen de cilinderkoppen in. De mgu-zit aan de zijkant onder tegen de motor, dus das weer minder extreem. Die axiale compressor is wel echt uniek. Dus je zat er niet helemaal naast.

      @ Brabham-bt50: Dank je voor de opheldering kan dat erg waarderen het dieper erop in gaan, heb het toevallig onlangs een vergelijkbare uitleg gelezen als die van jou. Als die-hard Ferrari fan zit ik gewoon te wachten op een duel tussen Mclaren en Ferrari. Mercedes en RedBull doet er niet toe voor mij, dat ouwe appeltje wat geschild werd tussen MCL en FER doet me nog altijd huiveren als ik eraan denk. No offense voor de Merc mensen!

    Indien ze in Barcelona hun eerste punten halen zal men pas over merkbare progressie spreken eerder niet, maar de vraag blijft welke progressie marge deze Honda PU heeft om helemaal vooraan te komen...
    Hopelijk heeft Alonso de goede keuze gemaakt

    Ik hoop dat het team de mindere jaren achter zich kan laten, maar ben nog niet overtuigd. Het heeft in voorgaande jaren nooit aan de motoren gelegen naar mijn idee. Het was gewoon dat de auto's niet goed genoeg waren. Nu is het een motor doe nog niet helemaal daar is waar men wil zijn, maar denk dat de rest ook te wensen over laat.

    McLaren komt er wel.

    De laatste jaren was het om allerlei omstandigheden niet veel soeps, maar nu liggen de zaken toch anders. Door het nieuwe partnership met Honda en de kinderziektes die een nieuwe wagen/motor met zich meebrengen, lijkt het alsof nog altijd aan het sukkelen zijn. Schijn bedriegt. Ze staan in feite een seizoen achter op de andere grote teams. Maar als je ziet welke progressie ze maken en dan hebben we het nog niet over de middelen, dan kan dit enkel goed komen. De basis is er.

    Enneuh, ze kunnen het zich niet permitteren om Stoffel in een slechte wagen te zetten uiteraard. Tsss ... :p

    (Ik herhaal) Eric Boullier zegt, "Vorig jaar had ongeveer vijftig procent van onze updates geen of weinig effect op onze performance. Dit jaar hebben we dat percentage terug gebracht naar vijf tot tien procent." Als je in de top 5 rijd dan gaat het percentage van de geslaagde updates weer sterk omlaag. Ben ik nou zo slim of Eric Boullier zo dom !!
