Todt benoemd tot speciaal gezant van de VN

Jean Todt, voorzitter van de internationale autosportbond FIA, is aangesteld als speciaal gezant voor verkeersveiligheid bij de Verenigde Naties. In die hoedanigheid zal de Fransman de secretaris-generaal van de VN, Ban Ki-moon, assisteren in de promotie van verkeersveiligheid.

Todt: "Het onderwerp verkeersveiligheid wordt vaak wat genegeerd. Verkeersongevallen zijn echter doodsoorzaak nummer 1 in de leeftijdscategorie van 15 tot en met 29 jaar. Daarom verdient het wel wat meer aandacht op de globale politieke agenda."

"Deze benoeming brengt de kwestie meer onder de aandacht en dat helpt ons om dit probleem te tackelen. In mijn positie als FIA-president, met de steun van onze leden, is dit uitgegroeid tot prioriteit en met deze rol bouwen we een sterkere coalitie voor een nog betere verkeersveiligheid."
