Ferrari zwijgt over aantrekken Bottas voor 2017

Het voorcontract dat Valtteri Bottas bij Ferrari getekend zou hebben had geen betrekking op 2016, maar op 2017. Geconfronteerd met die geruchten wist de doorgaans uitgesproken teambaas Maurizio Arrivabene zich even geen houding aan te meten. In Bild am Sonntag zegt hij: "In het voorseizoen beloofde ik om nooit de media voor te liegen, maar wat deze vraag betreft is het te vroeg om een precies antwoord te geven."

Kimi Raikkonen is de belangrijkste gegadigde om volgend jaar nog als teamgenoot van Sebastian Vettel te fungeren. Lewis Hamilton is niet in beeld bij Ferrari. Arrivabene: "Als Kimi op deze manier doorgaat, dan verlengen we zijn contract voor 2016. Maar performance is maar één aspect. Wat me ook bevalt is hoe Kimi en Sebastian samenwerken. Ze reizen zelfs soms samen naar een race. Dat is ook van invloed op onze beslissing."

"Wat moeten we met Hamilton als we al een zwaargewicht als Vettel hebben? Ik speur liever naar een jonge coureur die goed met Sebastian overweg kan." Voor die rol komt Bottas dus in aanmerking. De Fin zou dan na 2016 zijn landgenoot Raikkonen opvolgen.
