Audi beschouwt F1 als optie voor de toekomst

Audi heeft de deur richting de Formule 1 wagenwijd open gezet. Rupert Stadler, voorzitter van het Duitse merk, verklaarde in gesprek met het blad Auto Express dat toetreding tot de Formule 1 zeker tot de mogelijkheden behoort voor Audi.

"In het leven moet je overal voor open staan. We zijn momenteel al rijkelijk bedeeld met succesvolle projecten in de autosport. Maar de Formule 1? We zullen zien. Het is een optie voor Audi. Niet op dit moment, maar voor de toekomst is het zeker een optie", aldus Stadler.

Audi heeft wel groen licht van moederbedrijf Volkswagen Group nodig en daar is het op bestuurlijk vlak wat onrustig. Pas na de reorganisatie van de directie valt een besluit te verwachten. Red Bull Racing zal de ontwikkelingen met meer dan gemiddelde belangstelling volgen. De Oostenrijkse renstal lonkt al langer naar Audi als potentiële partner.

Maar dan wel als nieuw team, hoop ik. Niet dat ze een ander team kopen, dan wordt de grid nog steeds niet voller.
