Ecclestone voorziet een farce bij Strategy Group

Bernie Ecclestone is bang dat de Strategy Group-bijeenkomst van morgen uitdraait op een flop. Dat liet de commerciële baas van de Formule 1 weten in gesprek met Motorsport.com. De Strategy Group vergadert donderdag over de toekomst van de koningsklasse van de autosport, maar Ecclestone denkt niet dat daarin spijkers met koppen geslagen zullen worden.

"Ik vermoed dat we vier, vijf uur in vergadering zullen doorbrengen. En aan het einde van de dag zullen we alleen de datum voor de volgende bijeenkomst prikken. Het probleem is dat we te democratisch zijn, dat is op dit moment niet goed. Het is bekend dat ik niet van democratie hou, want competitieve mensen met uiteenlopende belangen worden het dan nooit eens."

"De winnaars willen de huidige situatie zo lang mogelijk intact houden en zodra ze gaan verliezen willen ze plotseling van alles veranderen. Zo komen we nergens, maar dit is wel wat het is. Het is zaak om onszelf in een positie te manoeuvreren waarin we beslissingen kunnen nemen en een koers uit kunnen stippelen. Daar ziet het echter niet naar uit", aldus Ecclestone.

Bijvoorbeeld over het aantal motoren dat per seizoen toegestaan is. "We waren het er allemaal over eens, ook de teams, om een vijfde motor toe te staan. Nu zeggen sommigen opeens dat het beter is om dat aantal op vier te houden. De leveranciers willen alleen een extra blok leveren als ze er geld voor krijgen, de teams kunnen dat niet veroorloven. Zo belanden we in een impasse."

  4 blokken per seizoen.. waarvan er in de eerste 5 races al 4 nieuwe motoren nodig waren..
  
  Wat mag meer klagen over kosten?
  
  Renault, die het verkloot heeft en elke 2 races een nieuwe blok moet leveren i.v.m. beunhaas praktijken.
  
  Ferrari, die blokken levert die meer dan 3 a 4 gp's meegaan.
  Mercedes, die blokken levert waarvan elke nieuwe blok een verbetering was (in mijn ogen)?
  Honda, die niet klaagt over budgetten en gewoon zijn materieel levert en elke keer moet verbeteren tot alles beter loopt.

  Klopt echter gaat het hier niet specifiek over Renault maar over alle leveranciers.
  Renault mag inderdaad niet klagen maar ik snap dat een Ferrari en een Mercedes dit niet kosteloos willen doen.

Hij vergeet wel te vermelden dat hij zelf deze democratie heeft onderhandeld met zowel de teams als de fia. Voor 2014 was er SWG en had de fia, buiten wat randvoorwaarden, alle macht in handen. Ecclestone kwam met 40 miljoen per jaar zwaaien voor de fia, gaf zowel hem als 6 teams een derde van de stemmen en dat heeft naar de huidige situatie geleid.

Niet dat hij in principe ongelijk heeft, maar er schuilt best wel wat hypocritie achter. You reap what you sow.

Ik vind dat Ecclestone wel een punt heeft. Ik ken geen enkele professionele sport waarbij de deelnemers zelf de regels bepalen. Stel je voor dat Real Madrid, Bayern München, Manchester United e.a. gaan bepalen hoe de spelregels ieder jaar aangepast moeten worden... beetje raar, toch? De FIA stelt de sportieve en technische vast en het is de keuze van welke constructeur, motor-, banden of andere leverancier dan ook, om onder deze regels mee te doen, of niet. De FIA hoeft de wensen van alle betrokken partijen natuurlijk niet compleet te negeren maar moet dus uiteindelijk de enige instantie zijn die de regels maakt en handhaaft.
