De Strategy Group heeft gisteren besloten om niet aan de motorformule te tornen voor 2017. Dat betekent dat het plan voor goedkopere klantenmotoren ook op sterk water is gezet. Motorsport.com bericht dat Cosworth in beeld is om die alternatieve krachtbronnen eventueel te leveren, mocht dat idee nog momentum genereren in de komende jaren.

Voor Cosworth is de Formule 1 nooit een gepasseerd station, legt een woordvoerder uit. "Cosworth bevindt zich zakelijk gezien in een opwaartse spiraal en focust zich op drie kernpunten, namelijk automotive, performance aftermarket en autosport. Ons bedrijf biedt voor elk van die drie pilaren oplossingen, engineering solutions, aan."

"We beschikken over de faciliteiten om aan uiteenlopende wensen tegemoet te komen, van grote autofabrikanten tot autosport-kampioenschappen. De Formule 1 heeft altijd een centrale rol gespeeld bij Cosworth en we blijven nauw verwant met deze sport. Echter, we zijn niet in de positie om op specifieke geruchten in te gaan."
