Hamilton: "Waarschijnlijk niet mijn laatste contract"

Lewis Hamilton tekende deze week eindelijk officieel tot en met 2018 bij voor Mercedes. De Brit debuteerde in 2007 in de Formule 1, veroverde in 2008 zijn eerste kampioenschap en voegde daar vorig jaar een tweede titel aan toe. Hij kan zich heel goed voorstellen dat hij na zijn nieuwe contract, hij nadert dan de leeftijd van 34 jaar, door blijft gaan in de Formule 1.

Hamilton: "Dat is nog best jong. Ik zie mezelf daarna nog wel doorgaan met racen op dit niveau. Dit is waarschijnlijk niet mijn laatste contract in de Formule 1." De nieuwe overeenkomst met Mercedes nam meer tijd in beslag dan gedacht, maar vanaf het allereerste moment was duidelijk dat beide partijen met elkaar verder wilden voor de toekomst.

"Eerlijk gezegd heb ik geen moment getwijfeld aan het feit dat we onze samenwerking zouden verlengen. Ik heb continu het geloof gehad dat het team met me door wilde. Met de successen die we behaald hebben en de relatie die we hebben voelde het als een zekerheidje. Ik nam de tijd, ik voelde me niet geroepen om ergens anders een stoeltje te vinden."

Netjes hoor. Binnen komen, Rosberg op de knieën dwingen, titel grijpen en daarna in alle rust zelf een nieuw contract afsluiten en ondertussen het nieuwe seizoen sterker beginnen dan je vorige.
