Financiële steun Spaanse GP op losse schroeven

De Grand Prix van Spanje kan in de toekomst mogelijk niet meer op financiële steun van de stad Barcelona rekenen. De organisatie verlengde het contract met de Formule 1 tot en met 2019, maar de inwoners van de stad kozen bij verkiezingen voor een burgemeester die minder waarde hecht aan het evenement.

Ada Colau is de nieuwe burgemeester van Barcelona en zij werpt een schaduw over het bedrag van 4 miljoen euro dat de stad jaarlijks overmaakt naar het Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. "In de context van hetgeen zich in Barcelona afspeelt, is de Formule 1 geen prioriteit."

"Het is niet zo dat we tegen de Grand Prix zijn. We verlenen graag medewerking aan alle sportevenementen in Barcelona en omgeving. Maar Barcelona moet duidelijke prioriteiten stellen en wij hebben andere prioriteiten. Met het geld dat we jaarlijks voor de Formule 1-race betalen kunnen we bijvoorbeeld ook 4.500 studiebeurzen financieren."

    die (buitenlandse) studenten daar zitten alleen maar op terrasjes :p

    Lijkt me dat ze wel een megaboete van Bernie kunnen verwachten als ze de races niet tot 2019 kunnen bekostigen en hosten... Iets met contractbreuk. Van de bezoekers moeten ze het ook niet meer hebben, sinds ALO in het middenveld of verder naar achtere rijdt...
