Faillissement uitgeroepen over Formula Sochi

Formula Sochi, het staatsbedrijf dat zich tot 2013 ontfermde over het op poten zetten van de organisatie voor de Russische Grand Prix, is door een rechtbank failliet verklaard. Dat meldt persbureau EFE. Rusland stond vorig jaar voor het eerst op de Formule 1-kalender.

Formula Sochi was in de opbouw van het evenement op een semi-stratencircuit door het Olympisch dorp van Sotsji verliesgevend. Daarom besloten de autoriteiten in 2013 al om de firma te liquideren. De promotie en organisatie van de Grand Prix van Rusland werd overgedragen aan het grotere Omega.

Ook daar waren dit jaar problemen. Door de nadelige wisselkoers voor de roebel moest Omega de Red Bull Air Race boven Sochi Autodrom annuleren. De promotor benadrukt echter gelijk dat dit geen gevolgen heeft voor de Grand Prix. Rusland heeft een contract tot en met 2020.
