Le Mans: Porsche heeft beste kaarten - auto Maassen in de brand

Met de derde kwalificatie nog voor de boeg lijkt Porsche de beste kaarten in handen te hebben om zaterdag vanaf pole te mogen gaan starten. Dat is op zich geen verrassing gezien de eerste twee races van het jaar en de vrije trainingen die de afgelopen dagen zijn afgewerkt. Toch is Audi niet bezorgd, zo laat Wolfgang Ulrich weten. De Duitse fabrikant zal zich volledig richten op de race, er ziet geen reden om zich op één ronde te moeten concentreren. Audi domineert op Le mans al sinds 2000, enkele uitzonderingen daar gelaten wisten zij iedere editie als eerste over de streep te komen na 24 uur.

Voorlopig staan de mannen van Toyota als zevende en achtste gekwalificeerd. Een schril contrast ten opzichte van vorig jaar toen wist Toyota met de nummer 7 auto nog de pole position te pakken. Het lijkt erop dat Toyota de problemen van het begin van het seizoen nog niet geeft weten op te lossen, konden ze op Silverstone nog om de podiumplaatsen vechten op Spa-Francorchamps wisten ze niet verder te komen als een vijfde en achtste plaatst.

De prijzen worden verdeeld na 24 uur en er kan in die tijd veel gebeuren. Met de nieuwe LMP1 auto’s van Nissan en de Nederlanders, Ho-Pin Tung (Pegasus Racing), Jeroen Bleekemolen (Riley Motorsports), Xavier Maassen (Team Aai) aan de start, is er genoeg om naar uit te kijken en zal ook deze editie in 2015 bol van de actie en het spektakel staan.

Terwijl de teamgenoot van Xavier Maassen achter het stuur van de Porsche zat, kwam er veel rook onder de auto vandaan toen hij net de pits was gepasseerd. Enkele bochten later vatte de auto vlam en momenteel staat de wagen van team Aai ProSpeed aan de achterkant volledig in de brand. Het zal afwachten zijn of het team mogelijk in de problemen komt voor deelname aan de 24-uur van Le Mans.
