Manor: "Nog geen besluit over motorenpartner"

Het team van Manor heeft nog geen beslissing genomen over wie ze als motorleverancier voor volgend seizoen willen hebben. De Britse renstal rijdt nu nog met Ferrari-krachtbronnen, maar in de wandelgangen gonst het van de geruchten dat ze overstappen op Honda-aandrijving.

Manor is nergens aan gebonden voor 2016 en dus vrij om te kiezen. Mercedes heeft al vier teams en is geen optie. De overige motorleveranciers zijn allemaal in beeld. Manor-directeur Graeme Lowdon verkondigde op Motorsport.com: "Het ligt helemaal open. Op dit moment hebben we een goede relatie met Ferrari en ze zijn zeer behulpzaam, maar we hebben flexibiliteit wat betreft hetgeen we voor volgend jaar doen. Dat hebben we nog niet besloten."

Over de toekomst van Manor zegt hij: "We hebben een plan en een strategie voor het team om commercieel en financieel zinvol te zijn, naast het sportieve plaatje. Er is een ideale omvang voor de rol die wij willen spelen en daar werken we naartoe. Hopelijk kunnen we vanaf dat moment meer mijlpalen aan ons palmares toevoegen."

    Ik denk dat Manor het nieuwe fabrieksteam van Renault wordt of het tweede team van McLaren gaat worden. Ferrari heeft met HaasF1 en Sauber in 2016 3 partners wat opzicht genoeg is. Denk het meeste profijt zou hebben van een tweede team. De kans dat Manor volgend jaar met Ferrari rijd lijkt mij zeer klein.

    Honda heeft dat tweede team echt nodig, maar of het Manor zal worden, weet ik nog zo niet. Een andere kandidaat zou ook ART kunnen zijn gezien de gebeurtenissen de afgelopen maand (cf. tender voor nieuw team, franchise teams die mss hun intrede zullen maken, de Todt-connectie, zelfde investeerders en livery dan McLaren, de juniors die er rijden, eerdere pogingen om in de F1 te geraken ...).

    Welk team het wordt, maakt me eigenlijk niet echt uit. Zolang er maar een tweede McHonda team komt en Vandoorne zijn F1 zitje heeft voor 2016, ben ik allang tevreden.

    Of te wel: ze kiezen de goedkoopste motor of kunnen worden overgenomen door een fabriek die op zoek is naar een eigen team.

    Het is dus gewoon een praatje om zichzelf in de etalage te zetten.
