Niet Mercedes, maar Williams vertrok vorig jaar van de voorste startrij in Oostenrijk. De Britse renstal bleek op de Red Bull Ring aardig in staat om de uiteindelijke kampioen partij te bieden. Nico Rosberg won wel, voor teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton die na remproblemen in de kwalificatie vanuit de middenmoot startte.
