Ecclestone boort Franse hoop op GP de grond in

Frankrijk hoeft niet te rekenen op een spoedige terugkeer op de Formule 1-kalender. Bernie Ecclestone heeft in gesprek met Sky Sports F1 alle eventuele hoop de grond in geboord. De Fransen beschikken niet over een geschikte locatie voor een Grand Prix.

Magny-Cours was bijvoorbeeld bij weinigen geliefd. Ecclestone: "Er is geen goed Formule 1-circuit in Frankrijk. We hebben Frankrijk verlaten omdat het voor niemand werkte. Frankrijk zou steun voor een race kunnen krijgen, maar niemand raakt opgewonden van de oude locatie."

De commerciële baas van de Formule 1 kijkt meer naar andere markten. "Ik zou graag een race houden in Zuid-Afrika. En Amerika blijft ook interessant. Het is jammer dat New Jersey nog niet door is gegaan, maar misschien komt het er nog van. Ik denk van wel."

Gelukkig loopt iedereen warm voor Rusland and Azerbaijan, landen waar historisch gezien de formule 1 tenminste bestaansrecht heeft.
