Britse Grand Prix verwacht 140.000 bezoekers

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië rekent op volgepakte tribunes bij de race van komende zondag. Op de wedstrijddag worden maar liefst 140.000 toeschouwers verwacht. James Allen vernam van de organisatie dat het de kaartverkoop spoedig stop zal zetten, omdat ze al tegen de maximale capaciteit van Silverstone aan schurken.

Een schril contrast met andere Europese Formule 1-races, die moeite hebben om hun kaarten aan de man te brengen. Oostenrijk verkocht dit seizoen zo'n veertig procent minder tickets ten opzichte van vorig jaar en de Duitse Grand Prix sneuvelde zelfs geheel voor dit seizoen. De Britse Grand Prix vaart daarentegen wel bij de successen van Lewis Hamilton en initiatieven voor goedkope kaartjes.

Silverstone bedacht meerdere acties om tickets te verkopen, zoals 44 procent korting (startnummer van Hamilton is 44) of dagkaarten voor maar 99 pond. Die acties sloegen aan. Circuitdirecteur Patrick Allen heeft al laten weten dat hij de kennis die dit jaar opgedaan is meeneemt naar volgend jaar en zal gebruiken om de prijzen voor tickets voor de komende edities te bepalen.
