Regio Lombardije hoopt op steun van Ferrari

Roberto Maroni, president van de provincie Lombardije, doet een beroep op Ferrari om de Italiaanse Grand Prix op Monza te redden. De gesprekken over een nieuw contract verlopen uitermate moeizaam en de Scuderia zou zich meer in de discussie moeten mengen.

Maroni deelde in Gazzetta dello Sport mede: "Bernie Ecclestone moet zich realiseren dat hij kan doen wat hij wil, maar van Monza moet hij afblijven. Je kan de geschiedenis die gepaard gaat met de Grand Prix op Monza niet uitwissen op basis van economische drijfveren."

"Het juist om nu te doen is de druk opvoeren, via de publieke opinie, de Italiaanse overheid en Ferrari. Ik zou graag zien dat de Scuderia dreigt uit de Formule 1 te stappen als de Formule 1 niet langer meer naar Monza komt. Ik heb maandag een gesprek met Ferrari-president Sergio Marchionne en dan zal ik dit ook bij hem neerleggen."
