Maldonado niet geïnteresseerd in ex-coureur als coach

De laatste jaren komt het steeds vaker voor dat topsporters een oud-topper in hun sportdiscipline aanstellen als coach of adviseur. Zo heeft tennis-wereldtopper Novak Djokovic nu oud-Wimbledonwinnaar Boris Becker als coach aangesteld, terwijl Romain Grosjean in 2012 oud-wereldkampioen Jackie Stewart om advies vroeg.

Grosjean's teamgenoot Pastor Maldonado ziet zo'n coach niet zitten voor hemzelf. De Venezolaan is bekend geworden door het maken van veel fouten en is sinds zijn entree in de Formule 1 meer dan eens betrokken geraakt bij incidenten. Qua prestaties is het ook niet om over naar huis te schrijven, want zijn puntenfinishes in Canada en Oostenrijk is pas de tweede keer dat hij twee opeenvolgende wedstrijden punten scoort.

Grosjean maakte in 2012 veel fouten en zocht daarom advies bij Jackie Stewart. Maldonado heeft echter geen behoefte aan zo'n coach. "Het is erg lastig om zoiets te doen met iemand die zelf niet rijdt, niet weet hoe de condities zijn en hoe de auto zelf voelt. Zeker omdat we nu zelf constant de banden moeten begrijpen," zei Maldonado. "Het is lastig voor een buitenstaander om er iets over te zeggen. Ik denk dat wij allemaal professionals zijn, met veel ervaring. We weten best hoe we om moeten gaan met een kampioenschap of teamstrategie."

    Het hoeft niet perse iemand te zijn die de auto van binnen en van buiten kent. Zou ook iemand kunnen zijn die de F-1 van binnen en van buiten kent. Iemand die als een soort klankbord kan functioneren is ook goud waard natuurlijk. Kijk maar naar Max bijvoorbeeld.

      Eau Rouge, ik verduidelijk mijn standpunt graag met een voor iedereen duidelijk voorbeeld. Daar lijkt mij helemaal niets mis mee.

    Natuurlijk heeft de grote Pastor geen coach nodig. Zeg nou zelf, met zijn ego en zijn talent heb je dat niet nodig. Dat het dit jaar niet lekker gaat, dat is de schuld van anderen. Anders had Pastor meegedaan voor het kampioenschap.

    Volgens mij is maldonado gewoon heel goed bezig dit jaar, heeft dit seizoen buiten zijn schuld om een handvol races niet gefinisht.

      yep, heeft wat meer pech gehad en 5 punten verschil tussen hem en Grosjean tot dusver, maar het is een sport om Pastor af te zeiken hier omdat hij (mmm hoe zal ik het zeggen) ...anders is dan anderen.
      en dan hoor je veel mensen klagen dat de coureurs van tegenwoordig saai zijn, geen échte karakters als vroeger.
      Wel, als er in mijn ogen 1 rijder is die ik niet saai vind; Pastor Maldonado!
      Hij brengt het geld mee en helpt daarmee zn team overeind houden, en hij zorgt nu en dan voor leuke momenten, en je kunt zeggen wat je wilt, het is een echte racer.
      Bij mij staat hij in een goed boekje, ik hoop dat hij dit jaar zn teammaat nog ruim verslaat in ppunten want dat verdient hij gewoon
