Smedley: "Williams kan Ferrari verslaan in kampioenschap"

Williams heeft haar zinnen gezet op de tweede plek in het constructeurskampioenschap. Het team staat momenteel derde, achter Ferrari. Rob Smedley, Head of Vehicle Performance bij Williams, heeft verklaart dat het team zich op de plek van Ferrari wil richten na de goede prestaties tijdens de Britse Grand Prix.

"We introduceren iedere race nieuwe onderdelen om de prestaties van de auto op alle vlakken te verbeteren. We ontwikkelen de auto met kleine stappen en er zit nog meer in het vat zodat we ons zelf in een positie kunnen krijgen om te vechten voor de tweede plek bij de constructeurs", aldus Smedley.

Williams-coureur Valtteri Bottas is net als Smedley hoopvol gestemd: "Ik ben best tevreden met het gat naar Ferrari. In Silverstone waren we voor het eerst dit seizoen sneller dan Ferrari in de kwalificatie."

Hoewel er binnen het team positief wordt uitgekeken naar de rest van het seizoen weet Williams ook dat de komende race op de Hungaroring een uitdaging wordt. Het team heeft het lastiger op langzame circuits en in natte omstandigheden. Toch laat men zich hierdoor niet uit de weg slaan: "We werken hard aan onze zwakke plekken, maar tegelijkertijd zijn we ook steeds bezig de sterke punten van de wagen te verbeteren", aldus Smedley.

Momenteel heeft Ferrari 60 punten voorsprong op Williams in het kampioenschap. Hoewel Williams de afgelopen drie races meer punten heeft gepakt dan Ferrari is het gat maar 17 punten kleiner geworden.

Haha, Williams krijgt ook een grote mond, nu ze de laatste race ervoor zaten. Wat ik overigens wijt aan een flinke motorupgrade. ( of het circuit lag de Williams gewoon erg goed, dat kan ook ) . Ik ben echt eens benieuwd naar de volgende race, eens kijken of ze die stijgende lijn vast kunnen houden.

  Nee, de Hungaroring ligt ze niet. Pas op Spa zal Williams er weer aan te pas komen en ik verwacht dat ze het ook wel goed zullen doen op Monza.

  Mercedes heeft nog geen tokens ingezet sinds Australie en de huidige set motoren heeft slechts 3 races gedaan.
  
  Dus het duurt sowieso nog wel even voordat ze een nieuwe motor krijgen waar dan mogelijk een update met gebruik van tokens op kan zitten.

Sinds Smedley bij Williams zit doet hij vreemde uitspraken. Hebben ze het een race de Mercedessen even moeilijk gemaakt, menen ze Ferrari te verslaan. Laten we eerst eens kijken of het niet een eenmalig succesje is geweest voor dit soort uitspraken worden gedaan, mr Smedley!

Ze staan volgens mij iets van 60 punten achter Ferrari en 90 voor op Red Bull.
Wat moet je dan zeggen, we rijden het seizoen eens even lekker uit op P3?

Nu heb ik het niet zo op Smedley overigens maar hoop wel dat ze Ferrari kunnen pakken. Al zijn ze gelijk aan Ferrari in de races is natuurlijk wel leuk om wat gevechten vooraan in het veld te zien.

  Moet kunnen lukken Ferrari heeft alleen Vettel als echte punten scoorder (bedoel dan scoren van 10 punten of meer, Williams hebben 2 gelijkwaardige coureurs die niks voor elkaar onder doen, samen zouden ze meer punten per raceweekend kunnen scoren dan ferrari

Ambitie is goed en met een beetje geluk worden ze misschien ook wel derde.
Na de wintertest én met de Mercedes motor gingen velen er al vanuit dat Williams het tweede team achter de Mercedessen zou worden.
Totdat begin dit jaar ineens bleek dat de Ferrari ook best lekker mee kwam.

Ik hoop dat Ferrari de tweede plek weet te houden of Bottas moet ineens een aantal overwinningen bij elkaar rijden (en Massa uitvallen), dat laatste is een persoonlijke mening :)
