Financiële strop bedreigt doorgaan Russische GP

Het is onzeker of de Grand Prix van Rusland dit jaar door kan gaan. De financiële situatie van de organisatie van de race in Sotsji is nijpend. Ze hebben bij de centrale overheid een verzoek ingediend voor een kapitaalinjectie van 64 miljoen euro.

Dat melden Russische media en Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. "Als er geen krediet verstrekt wordt, dan is er geen Formule 1 in Sotsji", verklaarde Veniamin Kondratiev, interim-gouverneur van de regio Krasnodar. Voor de Grand Prix van Rusland zijn tot nu toe 20.000 kaarten verkocht.

Door de zwakke roebel en de financiële sancties van de EU tegen Rusland draait de economie in het land niet zo goed. Krasnodar besteedt het beschikbare geld liever aan andere projecten, zoals scholing. "We wenden onze regionale fondsen niet aan voor de Formule 1", besluit Kondratiev.
